Ed Cohen’s paintings suggest a nuanced combination of control and spontaneity. Using carefully defined color palettes of acrylic paint freely and instinctually, Cohen captures a natural fluidity and sleek texture unique to the medium. Reminiscent of Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko — whose works embody vibrancy and movement — Cohen’s art evokes energy, joy, beauty and playfulness with strategic pauses of stillness. Though his paintings recall the style of these abstract expressionists, Cohen draws on Zen Buddhist philosophy as inspiration for his work. A graduate of Amherst College and the University of Virginia School of Law, Cohen lives in New York City. His artwork has been exhibited at Winston Wächter Fine Art in New York, Pulse New York and elsewhere
