Iván Navarro was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1972, where he grew up under the dictatorship of Gen. Augusto Pinochet. Navarro, who is known internationally for his socio-politically charged sculptures of neon, fluorescent and incandescent light, transforms exhibition spaces by means of visual interplay. Navarro represented Chile at the 53rd International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, and his recent solo and group exhibitions include "Una Guerra Silenciosa e Imposible," CorpArtes Foundation, Santiago, Chile; "Under the Same Sun," Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York City; "This Land is Your Land," Madison Square Park, New York City; the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina; NorthPark Center, Dallas, Texas; and "Prospect.2,", New Orleans, Louisiana. Navarro’s work is also held in the public collections of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C., and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, Virginia.
