ATLANTA (March 8, 2024) – Atlanta will welcome elite international club soccer competition to Mercedes-Benz Stadium when England’s Chelsea FC and Mexico’s Club América face off on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
Tickets for the match will go on sale via Ticketmaster on Wednesday, March 13, at 10:00 a.m. EST. Atlanta United season ticket members and Atlanta Falcons PSL holders will receive information on their exclusive presale soon.
“We are really excited to be returning to Atlanta this summer as part of our preseason tour,” said Chelsea Chief Executive Officer Chris Jurasek. “Mercedes-Benz Stadium is a truly remarkable venue, and we cannot wait to play there again in front of our US fanbase when we come up against Club America."
“We are very happy and excited to continue playing in the United States with great international teams, this time with Chelsea, a world-renowned team,” said Santiago Baños, President of Club América. “We hope it will be a great game for all our fans, and for all the soccer lovers.”
“We are very excited to welcome the passionate fan bases from Chelsea and Club América back to Mercedes-Benz Stadium for what should be an exciting night of soccer,” said Doug Roberts, AMB Sports and Entertainment Vice President of Stadium Events and Premium Sales. “Atlanta has quickly become the epicenter for soccer in North America and hosting matches like this allows us to further solidify Mercedes-Benz Stadium as the premier destination for international soccer matches.”
Chelsea, the two-time Champions League and six-time English Premier League champions, will enter the preseason in their second year under manager Mauricio Pochettino. The Blues are the first club to win all four major UEFA club competitions twice (Champions League, Super Cup, Europa League and Cup Winners’ Cup). The club will tour the United States before their 2024 Premier League season.
The Blues played in Atlanta last summer in front of a sold-out crowd as a part of the Premier League Summer Series, where Chelsea and Newcastle played to a 1-1 draw in front of nearly 71,000 fans at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Club América is the most successful soccer team in Mexico and the current champion. With 107 years of history, it has achieved 14 Liga MX titles, 7 Concacaf Champions League titles, 6 Copa MX championships, 6 Champion of Champions titles, and 3 Inter-American Cup. The team is led by Andre Jardine, the Brazilian coach who won a gold medal with the Brazilian team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Club America last played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2019 when they faced Atlanta United in the Campeones Cup finals, which saw United lift the cup after a 3-2 victory in front of over 40,000 supporters.
"Atlanta is quickly becoming a hub for soccer in the United States,” said Molly Pendleton, Senior Vice President, Unified Events. “Bringing world class teams like Chelsea FC and Club América to Atlanta will showcase Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the passion of American soccer fans.”
The Atlanta match will mark the fourth all-time game between Chelsea and Club America, all of which have occurred in the United States:
