Virtual tour to bring students through a curriculum-based learning experience while in-person tours remain closed until further notice
Monday, November 9, 2020 – Atlanta, GA– Today, Mercedes-Benz Stadium (MBS) announced the launch of the new STEAM Virtual Tour Experience, offering teachers, parents and students a way to digitally experience signature features of the 2019 Stadium of the Year through the lens of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. The tours, which are customized in partnership with teachers and parents, take visitors on a virtual ride through the stadium, highlighting the building’s unique architectural and engineering attributes for grades 3-12. The decision is an effort to connect the Atlanta community through interactive, curriculum-based cyberlearning, while in-person tours remain closed until further notice.
“As we continue to navigate this pandemic with an abundance of caution, we have been challenged by our leadership to actively live out our core value of continually innovating and the new virtual tour experience is a great example of that,” said Dennette Thornton, Director of Group Sales & Stadium Tours. “We are in the business of serving our Atlanta community by providing a best-in-class stadium experience, so we’re excited to digitally deliver our tours and bringing that experience into the classroom and home. As surrounding schools opt for virtual learning, we’re excited to connect with Atlanta and beyond through this digital experience.”
The 45-minute Virtual Tour Experience will feature exclusive looks of the state-of-the-art facility, including never-before-seen video footage of the playing field and locker areas. MBS has partnered with Big Thought to create the STEAM-based curriculum, which meets the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE). In addition, the virtual tour includes easy-to-use PowerPoint presentations and lesson plans for teachers and parents to navigate with supplemental activities as they relate to STEAM.
Prior to closing due to the pandemic, the Mercedes-Benz Stadium daily tours gave more than 220,000 fans a detailed look into notable stadium locations, including stops at locker rooms, the field, Window to the City, Skybridges, 100 Yard Club, Urban Garden and more. When open, guests can select between: Educational/STEAM Tour, Engineering & Architecture Tour, Technology Tour, Environment & Sustainability Tour and Art Tour.
Last month, Mercedes-Benz Stadium began welcoming fans back in limited capacity for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United teams. Team and stadium officials will continue monitoring with national and local health officials before deciding on fan attendance moving forward.
