The Home Depot Backyard to Kickoff Piedmont Healthcare Summer Movie Experience with Backyard Bash on August 3

Backyard Bash is the first of two events within the Piedmont Healthcare Summer Movies Experience at The Home Depot Backyard and will feature a host of community givebacks to support back to school efforts across the region.

ATLANTA, GA (July 23, 2024) – The Home Depot Backyard (HDBY), as part of its Arts and Culture collection presented by The Home Depot Foundation, is set kick off the Piedmont Healthcare Summer Movie Experience with Backyard Bash on August 3, 2024, from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m.

Anchoring the Backyard Bash festivities will be a series of community givebacks before and during the event to support back to school efforts across the greater Atlanta region.

The Home Depot Backyard, in collaboration with associates from the Blank Family of Businesses and the Westside Future Fund, is conducting a multi-week school supply drive to support a pre-K through fifth grade school from Atlanta Public Schools. Public school supply donations will only be accepted during Backyard Bash by those registered to attend. Additionally, The Home Depot Backyard will host a backpack giveaway during the event, courtesy of Ducos Law Firm, in partnership with our media partner Smooth Jazz 101/100, for students in need. Backpacks will be distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis, while supplies last, to those in attendance. Lastly, The HDBY will also host a week-long Scholastic Book Fair during its weekly community programming, on July 29 and 30, and also during Backyard Bash with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Best Buddies in Georgia, a state affiliate of the non-profit Best Buddies International that offers resources to enhance the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

The Home Depot Backyard continues its collaboration with presenting partner Piedmont Healthcare for its 2024 Summer Movie Experience that also includes a second event, Backyard Fest, on September 21. SweetWater Brewing also returns as a partner to host an interactive beer garden equipped with lounge seating, lawn games, and more during both events.

Backyard Bash will also feature an on-site vendor village, which is a uniquely curated collection of small businesses and vendors from the greater Atlanta community offering a wide variety of goods and services.

Entertainment for Backyard Bash will be headlined by a prime time showing on center lawn of The Lego Movie, the Academy-nominated animated adventure comedy film, released in 2014, featuring an A-list cast led by Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman, and Elizabeth Banks. Other activations include STEAM activations, gaming trailer, food trucks, immersive photo experiences, giveaways, and more. Music will be provided by DJ Waffles with Atlanta socialite Arkeedah McCormick serving as the event’s host.

In 2023, The Home Depot Backyard’s Piedmont Healthcare Summer Movie Experience hosted nearly 10,000 total attendees with both events (Juneteenth celebration and Yard Fest) in the collection recently being honored with Gold Stevie® awards at the 2024 American Business Awards® ceremony.
